A Note About 18th Century (1700s) and
Some 19th Century (1800s) Documents

Old Iron Gaul Ink used in the 18th century and to some extent in the
early 19th Century: with some types of paper there can be bleed through
over time; that, and the acid in the paper as well as how and where a
document was originally  stored over many decades can also lead to the
brittleness that is sometimes encountered. Hence, where the ink is you
can get deterioration and “bleed through”. If you want to stabilize and
strengthen the pages you can do so by repairing the breaks on the folds
or missing areas with Japanese rice paper and archival glue.
