I will let the images speak mostly. Appears to be notes by lawyer Edward C. Gaston to have 1848 and 1850 court cases filed. I believe he was a Charleston lawyer as I found this in one box with other Charleston papers. However; no guarantee. Could not find his name with a general internet search. Why the drawn face? Maybe it was a slow day for Mr. Gaston or perhaps he was a frustrated artist. I like to think he was drawing the face of someone who had bested him in court. Anyway, draw your own conclusion as it may be better than mine. Measures about 7.875 by 7.5 inches. Easily handled. What looks like a tear on the right bottom of the front is most probably excessive pressure of ink pen that was used that softened the paper and it fell apart. That is evident by looking at the back image as he had a heavy hand.
